Astro Chimp

About a month or so ago, I was driving my brother to work, along Stirling Highway. The Church Gallery had a sign outside reading, enigmatically, tantalisingly, alluringly:

Lisa Roet
Astro Chimp

'Astro Chimp' is a bit like my 'cellar door'. (JRR Tolkein described 'cellar door' as one of the most beautiful phrases in the English language. ) Except, for me, it extends beyond the aesthetic beauty of the words alone to embody all hope and inspiration. 'Astro Chimp'.

In the following weeks I drove past that sign a dozen times, ambivalent about whether or not I should go in. On the one hand, the phrase 'Astro Chimp' itself is so enchanting that surely any attempt to live up to the wonder that resides within those words will inevitably fall short and thus diminish the phrase's power. On the other hand, what if it doesn't fall short? What if the visual representation of Astro Chimp lives up to its promise and more? And what if I missed that?

I eventually decided to be an optimist and go inside.

Isn't that the creature that Eric van Dammen (spelling?) hypothesised populated the Earth? But seriously, musn't you now tell us what the billing was about? Large Louie

I didn't want to say, just in case others preferred to live with the mystery. There's a picture on my flickr account though, which gives a bit of an idea. Plus, if you just look up 'Astro Chimp Lisa Roet' on Google you'll find some pretty detailed articles.
